Was your 2017 New Year’s Resolution to get healthy and fit? Are you finding it hard to stay motivated? Sometimes you need to shake things up in order to keep your workouts interesting. Making a small adjustment can make a world of difference when it comes to staying on track.
If you find it hard to get out to the gym as often as you’d like, there are some easy things you can do at home with just a few pieces of equipment.
Running outside in the Canadian winter isn’t impossible if you’re prepared. It’s also important to fuel your body all year round in order to have the energy you need for distance running. You need calcium for your bones, and protein for your muscles.
If you’re lucky enough to have a treadmill in your home, all you need to run is a pair of clean running shoes for indoor use, and some dry fit, breathable fitness clothing. Runners can also benefit with some aftercare products, such as a foam roller for massaging out those tight muscles.
If you’re an avid cyclist, be sure to get regular tune-ups to make sure everything is working as it should, especially for when you start going on longer rides outdoors come spring.
Whether you cycle in the winter or summer, it’s important to have the proper footwear to ensure you get the best workout possible. Cycling shoes are designed to clip into your pedals. They allow the rider to pedal more efficiently, without getting fatigued as quickly. You can use them on spin bikes as well.
Stretching and recovering are as important as working out. After you tighten those muscles, you need to stretch them out. After working out you should roll out a mat and stretch out all the muscles you used during your workout. From calves to hamstrings to glutes to biceps, triceps, and forearms – stretching prevents stiffness, cramps, and injury.
You can also use fitness bands or tubes to help with stretching. Resistance bands are often used by dancers and other fitness professionals.
If you’re going to be exercising regularly, a good massage can be incredibly beneficial. Have your friend or partner give you a simple massage, or go to a professional for a deep tissue massage to help you recover.
No matter what you do, keep working towards your goals for a healthier 2017!
