Since it’s now January it’s time to start thinking about your goals and aspirations for the coming year. If you’re a busy parent, there may be some resolutions you’d like to make on behalf of your family and kids rather than just yourself. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
When your household is constantly coming and going – with sports, clubs, sleepovers, birthday parties and the like – it’s not always easy to eat healthy. Make 2017 the year you make time to eat right, and feed your kids healthy meals and snacks – even on the go. There are plenty of great cookbooks out there, and lots of recipes online to inspire you!
Is dinnertime always a battle to make your kids eat their vegetables? In 2017 learn some great life hacks for hiding healthy food in your kids’ meals. Keep your little picky eaters healthy, even if they don’t know it!
Be More Active
Not every child is a born athlete. Sports may not interest your children, which is totally fine – every child is unique with his or her own interests, likes and dislikes. But being active is something we all have to strive to do more. There are plenty of games that can be played both indoors and outside that will keep your kids busy and off the couch.
If you have a family dog, either make a point of taking it out for walks together, or if your children are old enough, have them take turns walking the dog.
Technology keeps on improving. We have faster computers and tablets, TV and movie streaming subscription services, video gaming systems with incredible graphics and sound, smartphones that connect us to everyone we know and more, and cars with DVD players and WIFI. While this technology is incredibly useful and has made our lives easier in many ways, there is such a thing as being too connected. In 2017, try to set aside some time to unplug and enjoy time outside, time with family, or quiet time reading, painting, colouring or drawing.
Improve Study Habits
If time management is something you struggle with, it is likely something that has trickled down to your children. If you noticed your children’s grades slipping in 2016, or assignments being done last minute or late, perhaps this coming year is the perfect time to buckle down and help your kids succeed. Make homework time as stress-free as possible for all involved by starting a daily routine.
We hope this has inspired you to make some positive changes this coming year to help your family stay happy and healthy!
Happy New Year!
